Exhaust silencer issues

Post by paulnel on 29th June 2009, 16:49

i own a 2002 BMW F650 Cs scarver, like any other new vehicle it was fitted with a catalytic converter. but the silencer and cat is all in one. because these bikes were very scares, its not possible to buy an after marker exhaust off the shelf. all the famous brands could not help me. so i had an exhaust custom made by Scorch design in cape town for the fraction of the price of famous brands. the new exhaust system ensured a great improvement in fuel consumption, but not really a difference in power. obviously it is louder than standard, but not in a good way. its not sounding like a "thumper" at all, rather than a 150cc school boy screamer! its ridiculously loud and after i get back from a long trip its even louder. the manufacturer told me i must bring it back, and he will repack it for me. that wont help me much, because it was too loud from the beginning. i don't want to refit the standard system, because then im back to basics. how can i get the after market system even quieter? is it possible to do the repacking yourself? whats inside? the after market system consist of stainless steel wool and fiber glass. is it possible to use different more sophisticated materials to kill that 50cc sound? scratch
