PUNCTURE PREVENTION AND REPAIRS

I have tube type tires and I am usually not prepared for a serious puncture. I normally have to following on hand:

Puncture repair kit
Shortish tyre levers (think I’m going to struggle with the back tyre, especially without a centre stand!)
Inflator “bombs”
On longer trips I take along extra tubes as well

I have fixed a puncture before (front wheel), which wasn’t too bad! But I would rather do what I can to prevent punctures. The (extremely limited) precautionary measure I have taken is to replace the ordinary tubes with heavy duty tubes. I have been pondering about putting puncture slime (or whatever it’s called) in the tubes. Will this affect my wheel balance?

What precautionary measures do you guys take and how effective are they

Hmmm...

Pick a good line
Don't run with tires too deflated - greater chance that you can pinch (snake bite) the tube if you hit something hard.
Put yourself & pillion on a diet (if applicable)

Maybe you should go

Sias the KTM guys all ride with the 6mm heavy duty tubes and Slime. No balancing problems which I know off as the slime should distribute evenly. Other wise ride with two small tyre levers, spare tubes and puncture repair kit.

If you give me R50 I will give you the 1/2 hour class

I attended this Training Session last Sat.
Was really worthwhile. Ray Muller has a fantastic setup at his premises in Robertsham.
Well organised and well executed. Everything from plugging a hole, a tear, which tyres are best for which conditions, tyre sealants, and hands-on removal of tyres from rims etc,etc.
Will definitely go back to Cytech. Can recommend them.
