TKC 80 - when to replace?

Post by mario on 4th October 2009, 22:00

My TKCs now have 5000 km on them and the middle blocks on the back tyre are getting thin (too much tar :-( ) ... when should I replace the tyre? Any tips or guidelines? Do the Heidi's get more kms?

I'm on about 7-8000km on Heidi's, still many thousands left. TKC normally wears quickly, then last bit last quite long. So up to you and legal limits... Wink

Thanks Drix! The Heidi's seem impressive! I filled up today and got 16.24 litres of fuel in. I did 359km on that tank and the computer said another 20km could be possible. Seems the F800GS can take more than 16l... What is the maximum amount of fuel anybody got into a F800GS?

So do you think its the tyres? - anyone else getting better fuel consumption on their Heidi's?

Hmmm...don't think it is the tyres. I did the run down to Deneysville and the motorcycle museum on that tank, so about 300 of the 359km was steady highway riding at 120 - 130km/h.

Sorry - with this being a tyre thread I thought you were saying it was because of the tyres. Now where is that damn 'tongue in cheek' emoticon when you need it??? Razz Rolling Eyes Wink

I once filled up with 17,99 liters and frequently put in 17+. Knobblies on high pressure uses just as much/little fuel as road tyres, is my experience.

The follow the creator of this thread on his slight detour.........

The F800GS is generally a very fuel efficient bike at “leisurely” speeds. Much like all other bikes, it starts to “suip” once pushed a bit. The F800GS is particularly bad though and it gave the big 1300 a good run – in the wrong direction. Our worst recorded figure was 12km/l
