Website is reaching its limits

Post by GSlady on 16th July 2008, 09:15

It has become necessary to delete some info on the website.

The webmaster has some ideas, but would like to know what the readers/users want or don't want.

Your inputs please?

Personally I think the forum has "replaced" some areas of the website in many ways.

I also think there are more people using the forum than there are visiting the website.

Just my thoughts...

Take it you are referring to the Club’s home and sub-pages and not to this forum.

If so, my answer is no, very seldom use the sub-pages. Think it’s good to have a window to the outside……that must stay……. and the front page (News) as you utilize it, is excellent – maybe with a few links in tact like for example :

- Forum (as present)
- Club (as present)
- S & P (as present)

As for the rest – including birthdays – I would prefer it to all to be found on the forum, sort of a one stop for day to day activities. This is talking from a convenience point of view thus not taking into account sponsors etc

I agree with Jamie. The "front-page" of the website is great!

I always find the Trip Reports the most interesting part on the website and/or the forum, both for enjoyment and research.

I wonder if "non-official BMW club trip reports", like the Eastern Transvaal and Drakensberg trips by myself and Jamie, this last week-end, should be grouped on the forum in a certain way. At the moment they all fall under "Other".
Maybe a sub-group per province or Road / GS or even the Extreme Rides or something. It will make finding specific reports easier and so will ease the research of routes in a specific area of the country.

What do you think?

ps. How do you do a spell check, I always cut and paste into Word and then run the spell check and cut and paste it back.

Yes, the Club's Home - the window to the outside world - as well as a base for info/facts/interesting titbits not covered on the forum... and a nice hobby for the webmaster!

Back to the forum: 2 hours, 5 replies . . not bad bounce

I also think that the Club website can be very basic. As you say, a window to the outside world. I also think by keeping the website basic, it would encourage/force club members to use the forum more regularly.

I would love to see all the members of the club's photos on there in an easily searchable format. I am a fairly new member of the club (December 07), and would love to get to know more people. When was the last time the photos of members were updated?

Not recently, I'm afraid.
The album currently on the website under CLUB > MEMBERS, was set up by the designer, Brian Cannoo, who passed away in February. The software he used costs 49 Euros - but setting up the album is not the difficult part, it's collecting the pictures.

I agree. I will start over with current members (2008) and available pictures - even it is not the same 'professional' manner it was done before?

Request to all 2008 members: E-mail a clear and recent 'head & shoulder' picture to dani@bmwclubs.co.za
