hello from The UK

Post by moorlander999 on 6th February 2010, 00:46

Hello to everyone in SA.from the UK.

I am a member of the BMW Cub UK and ride a 2003 R1150RT with only 5,000 miles on the clock...( needs to get used ) I am a Police officer in the UK so the bike doesnt get used very much as a result.

I joined this site after hearing so much about SA from visitors to the UK site/forum. The pics in the gallery are amazing although I dont think I would put my bike in the cargo net to get on board ship !!

Hope to speak with some of you,
best wishes

Simon Very Happy

Hello Simon and welcome.

The bikes with the fairings ie the LT and the R1200ST were not hoisted in the nets - they were lifted aboard with metal pallets to protect the fairings - pics are also included.

Only the GS bikes were lifted in the nets.

it still looks a bit scary......if that were mine I wouldnt be able to watch Shocked

I suppose that you are restricted on what ship is available - no drive on / drive off ferries etc ??

No - this was the St Helena - the ship that supplies St Helena Island, so semi cargo/passenger vessel. Up to end January 2010 Walvis Bay in Namibia was one of it's stops but it now longer stops there.

Ferries not really used much in SA. Have a few small open ones for river crossings but nothing on the scale of the channel ferries.
