If you're not a member of the club yet, pop in tonight at 18:00 or so. You & hubby will get to meet us, and if you like us you can sommer sign up to become a club member - otherwise you keep signing disclaimers when you ride with us Rolling Eyes

See you around, oh and congrats with your 650-twin... gives the TA a beating any time of the day!

Thanx Marnus

Mmmm ... my nickname .... water ... puddles ... splash ... need I say more drunken

Johan & I are members of the club but have not yet gone on any of the rides. Phew ... that means no paperwork Smile Might not make it tonight but will try next time.

I did test ride the old GS650 but didn't like it. The TA was excellent offroad but once I tried out the new twin ... oh hum ... I was hooked cheers I was initially keen for the GS800 but my feet didn't touch the ground, not even with the lower seat. I've been converted for almost a year now.

Hermanator - wine brings out the best in me!

Post by Hermanator on 7th July 2009, 09:15

Hi Ladies and Gents,

I was named Hermanator by friends in England when I bought a magical 1150RT in 2002. Herman (the German), as the bike came to be known, was one of 30 1150RT's BMW built as the precursor to the launch of the new 1150RT in SE version. Herman's and mine exploits both in England and on the continent became legendary.

The highlight of our trips was a ride of 4500 miles which took us over the top of Paris, then south through the Ardeche to Cannes. From Cannes, we took a feft to Nice and through Monaco. In Monaco, Herman had all the bits polished and, with the tuxedo DHL's to the hotel earlier, Herman and I arrived at the casino du Monaco in fine style. From there, the trip took us to Pisa, then to Florence and Rome before crossing to the East coast and San Marino. From Italy, we rode through Austria via the Alps, then into Czech Republic where we visited Prague and Most. (Most is the most beautiful place in Europe!). From Czech Rep, we entered Germany from the east with a highlight being the ceremonial ride to Freedom from east to west and the Brandenburg Gate.

Over the years in England, as the rides became more popular, so too did the friends circle increase and I was priviledged to spend many hours in the company of wonderful people touring Europe, North Africa, Scandinavia, and the British Isles. In all, I ended up doing over 200,000 miles touring Europe, informally leading some of the most fantastic tours and exploring routes, well off the beaten track.

Have practiced as a management consultant to media and telco's for 12 years and in '06 was invited to SA to do a contract for Media 24. In '08, I finally left corporate to concentrate on my businesses, Longway Moto - BMW Motorcycle Tours and rentals and Longway Imports, through which we import the Starcom1 range of communication systems (with a handful of other lines).

Based in beautiful Cape Town, I'm privileged to spend the little time I have these days, exploring the magnificent Cape and Karoo. There is simply nothing more stimulating than the pungent aroma of Lavendar as you ride the Touws Rivier road, an area so barren and untouched, dinosaurs would recognise it with no change.

Our 2009/2010 tours are almost complete and will be published shortly. Along with the many foreign riders we have on tour, we also take tag-along tours where we invite riders with their own bikes. Every tour is unique and accomodation is chosen for the lifetime memories it'll create.

I hope to meet some of the Pretoria members on my travels to Gauteng in the coming months.

Cheers

Lawrence

Hi Lawrence. It seems as if we Capies are going to take over the Pretoria Club. Wink

I myself is a Country member and did visit the clubhouse on one occasion to fetch my Extreme Rider medal.

Will surely be there again soon. Smile

Welcome to our forum. You will see this is a nice bunch of people up here in Gauteng. Our forum is indeed one of the most organized so is our club here in Pretoria. Country members are welcome and you must visit the club on one of our club meetings when you are up here.

Chunky and TJ, thanks for the kind invitation. I'll make a point of stopping by next time I am in Gauties. Our depot is taking shape nicely so will be in the area quite a bit this tours season.

Christo, a pleasure to find you here. Seems we have friends in low places. Shocked Very Happy

Welcome Magnus! Just yell when you need help - either getting feedback on your choice of bike (or colour!), or joining the club Smile

See you around, and don't be shy to start spamming the forum!
